Manchester Great Design Challenge with Plumlife! Win interior design competition!

manchester interior design competition
One of my favourite Timehop old posts are from 5 years back, when I made the decision to go to college and then University to study Interior Design.  Best decision in my life. No regrets! University gave me so much! It completely changed my life! With a support of my fantastic tutors and lectures I received First class degree in Interior Design. (read here press release) I was a finalist in ‘’Bath to the Future’’ Young Interior design award and I got runner up prize!(read here & here) I was also nominated for Creative Focus Award  2014 and received a Dean’s Award for Contribution to Interior design! Taking part in competition while still in amateur position is something that will really boost your confidence and prepare for the real world. Not everyone get University deadlines seriously so taking part in competitions like that will really help you to be more organised! It helped me also when I was preparing our award entry for a big  Awards called Mixology North in December oh and guess what? We won! Large Commercial Interior design project! Yay!(picture of me with blond hair still ) and now just to finish up I was featured in Mix Interiors magazine as ‘’Bright Young Thing’’ along with other great young designers and architects ( download the PDF to read )!

Once I’ve made you a little excited now, I want to invite you to a fab competition for amateur designers organised by Plumlife! You have an absolute amazing chance to redesign a family sitting room for show home at Edward Avenue, Salford. You can be a proper stylist! Oh and nearly forgot to mention the - great prize as well! The winner will receive £200-worth of M&S vouchers and be presented with a personalised Plumlife paintbrush trophy! ..and the fame of course don’t forget ! ;) The company is looking for an individual to creatively solve common storage and space issues in a typical lounge used by a busy family. The winner will work with Fiona Woodward Kelly, Plumlife’s chief interior designer, to source furniture and decorations.

Here is what the judges said about the competition;

Fiona Woodward-Kelly, Plumlife’s chief interior designer, said: “This is a great opportunity for a non-professional looking to break into the industry. This is a challenging brief because the designer will have to work on a budget to come-up with a functional design which will appeal to a range of families. We’re not looking for wacky designs but practical solutions to dress our show home.”
Lisa Westerman, group head of sales and marketing for Plumlife, said: “We’re looking for fresh talent to wow us with a really colourful and inviting design for a typical family lounge. The scheme needs to be comfortable, practical and low cost. The winning design will be recreated on a £3,500 budget in a home in Edward Avenue, Salford, so the designer will be able see their work brought to life.”
Kimberly Duran, interiors blogger at , said: “This is a fabulous chance to launch a new career or just tap into your creative side. If you enjoy home interiors why not enter and show us your ideas? We’re looking for original and fun designs suitable for a young family.”
Juli Parr, programme leader foundation degree in interior design with sustainability at Stockport College, said: “If you’re an amateur designer with a good eye and want to break into the industry please send us in your mood board. This competition reflects a typical brief a professional interior designer would respond to every day. This is your chance to gain some real life interior design experience.”Mood board designs can be any size, using any material and can be hand designed or digitally created, showcasing a suitable sitting room theme, for a family of four, with two children under ten.
