While we are all now in the Christmas mood, my thoughts are already with New Year’s Eve. There are two reasons. First of all, because it’s my Birthday! Yes, I was the unfortunate one who was born that day and guess what this means? It means that I can never organise a Birthday party. Most of my friends already have plans for the evening, whether it’s to spend time with kids (yes I am at that age) or family, they live away ( I have lived in different places so my closest friends are scattered around the world) or I am simply not as close/important for some so they cant change their plans for me, it’s the sad truth, but I am used to it. I never had a true bday surprise and I can count just 2 amazing Birthday parties, one in UK, and one back home.
For that reason, my second thought is always to get away for NYE. With no faf, no worries just get on a plane, train or bus and simply spend that time being productive by travelling and learning new things.
I am that person who feels sorry for herself, maybe for 5 mins, throw my toys out of the pram and then come up with a constructive plan and do something with my life. This is how I achieved so many things. For this reason, I am thinking of having an active New Years Eve this year.
Another reason is not just my Birthday, but the fact that most of my friends now actually spend NYE at home. Overcrowded bars with screaming kids, or fights mean it’s not the safest place to spend NYE. Also considering that the average price for NYE per person including drinks, dinner and entrance to bars is around £150 per night! That’s just one night, one dinner in same city you spend every Saturday. This doesn’t sound appealing to me at all. Plus the horrendous hangover the next day!
The Weather is another reason, I am reconsidering staying in Manchester. I love winter when there is snow, a fireplace and hot chocolate, perhaps I can go skiing. I remember my bday for the past several years when I was a child I would wake up with snow outside and presents by my bed. It still brings a tear to my eye thinking that every NYE morning my mum would wake me up with a kiss on my forehead saying Happy Birthday and giving me presents. Ah I am getting emotional here 😉 This is not how I would imagine NYE, NOT with the cold outside, rain and splashes all over my NYE dress. For that reason, I am escaping Manchester.
My favourite idea for this year is to escape the British winter, grab a map and do a walking getaway in some warm city like Spain or Malta! The idea is simple, book 3 or 4 days including dinner in some nice cosy hotel.
Inntravel has been offering New Year walking holidays in Europe since the late 1980s with something for everyone, even those who never did a walking holiday before. You can enjoy a self-guided tour with your own peace of mind and not be rushed by anyone.
I want to be very active and start 2018 being healthy. Since I have lost so much weight and need to now maintain my perfect figure, a walking holiday sounds like something I really want to do. Starting the year active and healthy, will help me keep up with my goals throughout the year.
Another reason, is who doesn’t want to walk in the mountains, discover new cities and cultures while trying local foods and experience NYE in another country? I absolutely love this idea. Imagine, flamenco, with yummy sangria in your hand, dancing the night away with shining stars fighting against fireworks. Doesn’t this sound like the most romantic and adventurous New Year Eve? Tell me what are your plans?
