Soft furnishing (towels, cushions, throws)
Without spending a fortune on a new big piece of furnitures like beds or sofa ’s, the easiest way is to focus on your soft furnishing. Replace any throws and cushion with a summer vibe. Focus on leafy and bright colours and recently trendy zen and Aztec motives. This will instantly, refresh your soft funning without even trying. In your bedroom, the bed is the main feature and here you have a huge opportunity with your bed covers so bring some nice summery vibes and quirky refreshing patterns. Flowery patterns particularly do very well. I love Christy new collections this year, I have spotted at Swoon Worthy and had to immediately check it- love it. Don’t forget your bathroom. Adding some plants, a splash of paint or replacing towels will be the most cost-effective and if you have quite neutral colour scheme then is only to your benefit as you can add as many colours as you wish. Parklife anyone in a bathroom anyone ?;)
Lighting ( indoor and outdoors)
One of the most important parts of every home is lighting. New lighting can create moods and bring positive ambience to every home and garden. Replace your existing lighting with some beautiful new shades into all your rooms. Additional lightings like table and floor lights it’s a must. Companies like Lights have a selection of absolutely stunning pieces, that are affordable and yet can transform your home and garden with a beautiful summery vibe. Don’t forget your garden as you have now plenty of lighting solutions for your garden. Cables come with extension leads long enough to reach far corners, but also imagine the lighting hung of trees. It would look absolutely beautiful.
Accessories ( mirrors, pictures, etc.)
You don’t need to particularly splash on a new mirror, you can simply DIY your own with summer stones, shells or repaint and bring distressed paint effects. However, is good to look out for a summer vibes accessories around your home as well, empty bottles- tree branches etc, and create your own unique DIY effects. Update your room with new pictures ( reuse existing frames and just add new prints. ) I am adding this year picture of Flamingo as recently visited Aruba, but will show you soon.
Repaint ( touch of paint here and there)
You don’t need to hire a painting team and suddenly get your home upside down. Just buy few cans of your favourite colour and add some quirky paint effects here and there. Add extra paint effects in your bedrooms or bathroom, create a stunning effect of bedhead or just visually can create a nice contrast in the room.
Flooring ( rugs, carpets etc.)
To replace an entire floor just for one season is a bit much; instead you can just hire a good cleaning company and focus on small areas. If your wooden flooring is really worn out, getting it professionally polished will make a significant difference. These days Gumtree is full of companies who will do this and it won’t cost as much as you would spend on new flooring. You could also replace tired and worn skirting boards to bring the visual appearance of new flooring, for a less expensive way to make your room look refreshed. Inject extra life into the room with patterned rugs, whether you have wooden flooring or carpets. I recently bought a new rug which is placed on a carpet – you can read about it here.
Furniture ( coffee tables, cabinets)
It’s hard to spend an enormous amount of money on a new furniture while you can simply jazz up your current ones. Not sure if you remember my post my bedroom DIY where I upcycled my cabinets. With a simps touch of a vinyl, paint and creative mind- ( or Pinterest inspirations) you can easily epicycle your old furniture rather spend a fortune to a new one.
Windows (curtains, shutters)
Summer is also a time to refresh your windows. You don’t need to replace the entire window. If you have old windows, simply repaint the frames. You can invest in window shutters but also think of new window blinds as well. You can bring many patterns and colours through blinds these days, and there is a huge selection of living room blinds or any other rooms. Also, focus on curtains as you can bring more light through if you replace them with lightweight and bright coloured ones.
Garden ( grass, furniture)
If you one of the lucky ones that have big ( or small) garden but even a patio or balcony, you can transform the place within minutes by adding few quirky touches. The first thing you have to focus is that biophilic touch and in other words grass. Greenery, whether is in your garden or balcony, will automatically make you feel relaxed and positive. It’s hard to maintain a real grass while we all have such a busy life these days, so the best solution is to invest in a faux grass as is easy to install, cheap and the good quality product can last for years. Furniture is another factor to transform your garden within seconds. Focus on outdoor good quality furniture but also add a quirky touch of swings, hammocks and waterproof soft furnishing as this will make your garden looks like a relaxing space for any family event or just to read a book in the evening.
