Are you in need of a room makeover but a bit stuck when
it comes to ideas?
There’s a really simple way to completely reinvent the rooms in your home and it doesn’t require expensive wallpaper or lots of time. Feature walls! All you need is some paint, some good masking tape – and some inspiration!

Feature walls have been popular for some time. They started as one distinct area of wallpaper, for example behind a headboard or around a fireplace – but have developed into whole walls and now many of them are created using paint. They’re becoming more popular as home interiors change. Kitchens are now living rooms; they have less cupboards and more exposed walls. Alongside sofas, sideboards and plants, clients are looking for paint finishes that can be contemporary yet homely – feature walls deliver that. More people rent, so this is great way to personalise your property (with permission!) without investing a huge sum of money. Paint also works with the people within the home. Textures such as flat matt are great for families, and endurance paints are tough for homes with children and pets. Reflective paints, meanwhile, can really brighten smaller rooms.

The best thing? The design can be unique. You can create mountain ranges, zig zags, straight lines, quirky signs, geometric patterns – anything, to suit your style.
Feature walls demand a deft touch and an eye for a good finish. There is less room for error so a good masking tape like FrogTape® is essential.
FrogTape® is the UK’s number 1 branded masking tape. No other tape delivers straight lines like it, thanks to its unique PaintBlock® Technology, which forms a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape to prevent paint bleed. This makes it perfect for getting really creative with paint in the home!
There are lots of things you can create but one style that works really well is this guest bedroom that will give your friends and family the feeling of a boutique hotel, thanks to an on-trend blackboard sign above the bed.

All you need is some FrogTape® and a little bit of clever brushwork. Here’s how –
1) Prep the whole wall by removing any old paint or paper.
2) Sand and clean thoroughly.
3) Plan out your design on the floor or a large piece of paper first.
4) Paint your base coat and two coats of white matt.
5) Once the paint is dry, use FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painter’s Masking Tape to create your blackboard effect design. Make sure you mask out rows first, then any square and diagonals last. Rub the edge of the tape to get a good seal.
6) Use a black matt or chalkboard paint to fill in the shapes. Allow each coat to dry before painting the next. Use a flat artist’s brush.
7) Once the paint is dry, use a pencil to create the wording.
8) Fill in the wording with a white paint pen. You may need to use a few coats. If you make a mistake, you can use the black paint to cover and try again.
9) Dress the room and welcome your guests!
