Hair loss is typically spoken of as a male concern, but women suffer from it too. Different factors can cause your hair to fall out a lot faster than usual and you notice it doesn’t grow back as quickly either. This causes thinning around the scalp and possible receding around the forehead line too. We all feel more confident with a luxurious head of hair, so what can be done to treat hair loss in women?
You’ve mainly got three options:
- Switching to a new shampoo/conditioner
- Trying hair loss medication
- Microneedling or PRP injections
All three can be effective, though it depends on why you’re suffering from hair loss. Identify the cause and then see which of these methods will help!
Switching to a new shampoo/conditioner
Hair loss can sometimes come from the shampoo or conditioner you use. Maybe you’re using things that cause your scalp to dry out, which leads to accelerated hair loss. There could be many issues on your scalp making the hair fall out, so switching to a hair growth/thickening shampoo might generate amazing results.
Different shampoos contain ingredients like caffeine or rosemary oil that are linked with improving hair growth. Others focus on cleansing your scalp correctly while moisturising it to encourage hair growth and thickness. This is likely the best solution for people with thinning hair – if your hairline is receding, you’ll probably want to try a different approach.
Trying hair loss medication
Some hair loss in women is hereditary or caused by other things in life. For whatever reason, your hair keeps falling out and your hairline is receding. It’s never nice for this to happen, but you can find different medications that either slow this down or prevent it.
Now, the most important thing to be aware of is that some hair loss medications aren’t suitable for women. You’ve got finasteride for hair loss, which is the most popular medicine to treat male-pattern baldness. It works, but it is NOT suitable for women! Instead, you should opt for minoxidil to treat hair loss. This is also clinically proven to work, though it is approved for use by women and men. If you spot any other hair loss medications online, be sure to double-check and triple-check that women can use them without any health concerns!
Microneedling or PRP injections
Lastly, you could go down the route of getting cosmetic beauty treatments to correct hair loss. Some research suggests that both microneedling and PRP injections can encourage hair regrowth. The two can be used together or alone and they trigger your body’s natural defence system, bringing blood flow to your scalp and almost forcing the hair follicles back into their growth stage.
It’s something you’ll need multiple times before seeing results and it can be rather expensive. But, if you don’t like the idea of relying on medication, this can be a very good treatment option.
Before trying any hair loss treatments for women, make sure you realise why you’re losing hair. Is it a natural thing because of your genetics, or is it temporary thanks to stress or certain medications you’re on? Finding the cause helps you work out the right route to go down so you see the best results and live happily with a full head of thick hair!
